Power consumption in factory settings as a summary
The 21.9 watts in idle are ok in comparison, but still quite high, fluctuating between 10 watts and up to 31 watts. With a second monitor, this quickly becomes 50 watts and more (peaks over 64 watts). The driver still urgently needs to be improved here, especially as the PCIe doesn’t always clock down correctly and completely. Incidentally, we can see very clearly that the full TBP is not even utilized in Ultra HD and the Torture Loop increases once again until it is capped (I’ll come to this in a moment). AMD’s new implementation of telemetry for the entire card has a very limiting effect here, even if the value is of course immensely high. I have already discussed this in several articles and AMD has also communicated this.
Load distribution between the PCIe slot and the PCIe sockets
The distribution of the power supply shows that the card has plenty of reserves in terms of TBP and the performance of the rails. While the three 8-pin connectors are quite well utilized, the motherboard slot is still far below the permissible 5.5 amps in the stress test with up to 2.3 amps.
While NVIDIA has almost completely discontinued the supply via the PEG in the FE, AMD’s board partners usually still use this rail quite excessively. In this context, the new partial voltage VDDCR_USR also raises some questions. However, there is also no tangible information available in the board partners’ documents. The up to 20 watts that AMD only provides there via the two phases is slightly surprising, as a single voltage regulator would probably have been more than sufficient for this.
