The next step was to carefully remove the pads and label them with a pen so that I would later know which pad has which thickness and where it belongs.
After cleaning, I noticed that there was a small pimple in the middle of the cooling surface. A cooler has been installed here that is actually not quite right. I don’t know whether this was caused by nickel plating or whether it was already damaged beforehand.
You can see the small imprint of the pimple on the GPU on the 2.
Since I wanted to use a graphene thermal pad for the GPU and the instructions also say: “Attention: Electrically conductive! Follow instructions!”, I played it safe and covered the open components on the GPU with a special electronic silicone as a precaution. You never know…
After cleaning, everything was fitted with new thermal pads and reassembled to see what had changed in the temperature values. You can read on the next page that that wasn’t all.
