Reviews Server & Services Storage Storage drives

Ugreen NASync DXP2800 NAS in test – Can the small version convince?

Operating system and software

Whenyou log into the web GUI for the first time, a checklist of recommended functions and settings is displayed.

So let’s just follow it. Thevery first step is to create a memory pool.

Depending on the combination of hard disks installed, JBOD and RAID1/5/6/10 are available for the pool, alternatively there is also Basic, which is simply a single transparent data carrier.

If required, several volumes / file systems can also be created in a pool; BTRFS and Ext4 are available.

Finally, there is another overview of the selected settings before they are confirmed by entering the password.

The created volume can then be made available via a network share. The assignment of read and write permissions is also defined via the wizard. However, this does not automatically activate a required network service such as SMB, FTP or NFS, more on this below.

At this point I have deviated from the checklist, we will look at the various functions on the following pages.

The Storage Manager provides a simple overview of the installed data carriers with the SMART status and temperature.

If required, additional widgets can also be added, which is very practical.

Other storage pools can also be created; if data carriers have not yet been used, there is a corresponding note on the start page.

Depending on whether it is an SSD or HDD, there are some additional functions via the three dots on the right.

UGOS also includes a task manager, which can be opened either via the shortcut on the desktop or by double-clicking on the small preview in the taskbar.

I think the breakdown by service or process name is good and is usually informative enough to understand what is currently happening in the background.

Various system events are listed in the Log Center, and past notifications can also be viewed here.

The options offered in the Control Center are quite straightforward at first glance, but there are several tabs of settings behind the icons.

For some reason, the time zone was automatically set to Egypt. Although I was on vacation there this month, I certainly didn’t take the NAS with me.

There isalso a summary of the various technical details.

In the network settings tab, you can make sure that the NAS is connected at the maximum available speed.

A network service must also be activated so that the shared folder created earlier can also be found by our computer. For Windows systems, this is usually SMB.

If you want, you can also adjust the login page and the corresponding port; the default settings are 9999 for HTTP and 9443 for HTTPS.

I even found a somewhat hidden integration for communication with a UPS. In the event of a power failure, the NAS can then be safely shut down automatically, butthe official compatibility list is still a little short.
