Different switch variants
While the linear red switches are best for gaming in my opinion, frequent typists might be interested in looking at the two tactile variants of the BOX switches, which are preferred by many users for word processing. For the overview I leave a small listing with the characteristics of the individual variants.
Individualization
As already mentioned at the beginning, I would not like to leave the enclosed PBT keycaps untested in the box. By the way, the enclosed keys were not thrown randomly into the box, but quite deliberately selected. These are statistically the most used keys, and looking at my previous keyboards that were used to play a lot of shooters, Sharkoon actually made the choice pretty well. But what’s the deal with these PBT caps? In contrast to the regular caps, which consist of a translucent base material that allows the illumination to shine through and are provided with a coating corresponding to the respective key, which wears off over time, the PBT caps consist of two separate parts: the outer, coloured part, which provides the colouring and has a cut-out in the form of the corresponding symbol, and the translucent insert, which fills the cut-out and allows the illumination to pass through the cap only at this point. This is of course of a much higher quality and above all more durable, but also correspondingly complex and expensive to produce. Another small disadvantage is the somewhat blurred font, as you can see well from the following picture.
The feel of the PBT caps is, probably due to the nature of the material, also a bit more grippy than the printed standard keys.
I also want to mention that both the regular Kailhs and the BOX Switches are apparently fully compatible with all Cherry MX keycaps. The keys of my MX keyboards have all fit without any problems. In the example, the A key of an MX-Blue keyboard.
The following gimmick has of course no practical use, rather the opposite, but by exchanging the caps many gimmicks can be realized.
