In WQHD, the CPU limit is finally reduced somewhat, especially for the cards we are interested in today. That’s why I consider the tests in the high resolution to be more relevant, at least as far as the differences between the cards are concerned. In addition to the Radeon-GeForce comparison, it is much more interesting to find out whether AMD has finally managed to overcome the old weakness of the RX6000 series in the high resolutions. Once again.
The GeForce RTX 4070 is now just behind the PowerColor RX 7800XT Hellhound Spectral White, despite the mix of Raster and DXR. Without DXR, the PowerColor card would be even further ahead.
Now let’s look at the min FPS, i.e. the one percent of the slowest rendered frames (P1 Low). Here, the PowerColor RX 7800XT Hellhound Spectral White is clearly ahead of the GeForce RTX 4070 and even ahead of the Radeon RX 6900XT.
The power consumption was also logged for each benchmark in WQHD for this selection of games and also cumulated at the end, so that a very clear picture already emerges here. The GeForce RTX 4070 is once again unassailably ahead, but is slightly thirstier than in Full HD. The PowerColor RX 7800XT Hellhound Spectral White requires almost 100 watts more and is once again in the range of the energy crowbar.
If you now look at the resulting efficiency, it really almost brings tears to your eyes. The Radeon RX 7800XT MBA is still the new card with the best drinking habits, the rest up to the RX 6800 is almost a case for the Betty Ford Clinic, even if AMD nonchalantly calls gamers efficiency grouches. That’s certainly easy in a country where electricity doesn’t cost much, but it’s the quantity that counts.
