Power consumption and efficiency in QHD – 2560 x 1440 pixels
The higher performance of the card with BIOS 2 enabled comes at a price, almost catching up to the GeForce RTX 3090 in terms of power consumption. BIOS 1 is much more frugal.
The efficiency of the card with BIOS 1 is still clearly ahead of the RTX 3090 FE. With BIOS 2, it doesn’t look as nice, and you’re moving away from the sweet spot a little more clearly here as well. Those who accuse NVIDIA of the electrical crowbar in the RTX 3090 FE will also find it in BIOS 2 of the RX 6900XT.
Power consumption and efficiency in UHD – 3840 x 2160 pixels
In Ultra HD, the card BIOS 2 and the now 344 watts is in the middle between the RTX 3080 FE and the RTX 3090 FE, although it has to let up a bit in performance. BIOS 1, on the other hand, is also the more sensible choice here, as you are only marginally slower than with BIOS 2, but still far more efficient than the RTX 3080 FE.
In Ultra HD, the card with BIOS 2 is thus close to the GeForce RTX 3080 FE, while BIOS 1 can push itself a notch ahead in efficiency.
But gaming alone is not everything and we also want to go into the other load scenarios, the voltages, the load peaks and the power supply recommendation in the following chapters.
- 1 - Introduction and technical details
- 2 - Teardown: PCB, power supply and cooler
- 3 - Gaming performance
- 4 - Gaming power draw in detail and efficiency
- 5 - Power consumption, voltages and standards
- 6 - Transients and PSU recommendation
- 7 - Clock rate and temperatures, infrared
- 8 - Overview and conclusion
