Clock rates and overclocking reserves
The beat doesn’t even look bad. In Full-HD and also WQHD in places, the card already manages well over 2400 MHz ex works and even goes up to about 2500 MHz for a short time in places. Fully warmed up and in Ultra HD, it’s still between 2350 and 2400 MHz, depending on the game and load. If you increase the power limit by the maximum possible 15%, then the clock rate can even be increased a bit, because it stabilizes up to 2500 MHz and even a bit more, depending on the chip quality.
This is about 100 to 150 MHz below the reference card from AMD. If you add the missing clock manually and also change the SoC specifications analog to the reference card, then both cards would be on par again, but also with the known disadvantages in power consumption and of course waste heat.
Now let’s look at the temperatures. The AMD-internally called “edge temperature” (we also know it from NVIDIA) is with the values between 56 °C almost 10 degrees below the reference card. Laudable and really nice and cool. Well, it’s also about 20 watts less waste heat and a bigger cooler. This is also impressively proven by the IR measurements, where I unfortunately could not measure the card without backplate. Rotation.
