Volume flow vs. sound pressure level
Of course, every customer has different premises and you get here a very appealing performance in the case with a huge speed band. The Phanteks T30 beats here the reference in the ratio of flow rate and noise quite clearly. Flow rate and speed are two different things, because in the end it is also the ear that decides. Also for this (pleasant) reason, the reduction of the maximum speed in two steps via DIP switch is actually completely superfluous. On a radiator, no matter what the thickness, the overall positive image is definitely maintained.
What is a bit surprising is the slightly wavy course between 15 cfm and 35 cfm, where it sometimes gets quieter and sometimes a bit louder and the rise is not quite as even as with the reference. But this is complaining on a very high level, because the peaks are always below the reference level. The somewhat unsteady course can perhaps best be attributed to the engine, which with its 3-pole design reaches its limits in the lower rev range and reacts somewhat more grumpily than at higher revs.
So if you install the Phanteks T30, you also have to pay attention to structure-borne noise and vibrations, which can quickly find a resonator and then put the fan acoustically on the sidelines. Such things are also the reason why we work with a large-volume and very rigid chamber and not with a thin and long wind tunnel. This also applies to the end user, who may please pay attention to a good decoupling here. The rubber applications used are usable, but in case of doubt still not optimal.
Volume flow and speeds
We again see the slight bump on the Phanteks T30 in the 25 cfm area where you need slightly higher RPMs, but otherwise the curve is very similar to the reference fan up to about 35 cm. Only from about 40 cfm the Phanteks T30 needs higher speeds to achieve the same flow rate as the reference. However, this does not mean a higher sound pressure level as long as the possible resonances caused by the high engine power are well controlled.
So you can see that the fan not only keeps what the manufacturer promises, but delivers neatly. Here one can only congratulate, because usually such barrel organs are only loud, but not particularly powerful, if one lowers the revs a little. The Phanteks T30 only falls into a bit of a hole below 1000rpm, but there is still enough performance to easily keep up.
Conclusion
Who is looking for the volumetric extra kick, will find here for 30 euros one of the best RGB-free offers. RGB is overrated anyway and what counts here in the end is the awesome performance at an acoustically rather restrained appearance. By the way, the manufacturer will also follow our suggestion and add a warning on the packaging concerning the fingers and the maximum speed. Because almost 5 watts of motor power and a sharp rotor blade are almost good enough to grate soft vegetables in the propeller.
The fan has an extremely wide speed range, which is also a unique selling point for the award. The Phanteks T30 can therefore be used very flexibly and adapted to all cooling-related situations. That’s what it takes to make it. Well, 30 euros for a sinister journeyman are not little, but who is really looking for performance, we like to bleed here. There are currently only a few real alternatives without a and with proper bearings. Upper class? Yes, even if the plain appearance is more reminiscent of an industrial fan.
