Installing the operating system
Before the actual installation, you should briefly check in the BIOS of your SoC or motherboard whether the RAM is recognized correctly and runs at the rated speed. You can also use this opportunity to set the boot mode to UEFI and set the installation USB drive as the first boot option. It is important that the UEFI option is also selected for the USB flash drive!
If you have done everything correctly, this window should be displayed. Here simply confirm the already selected option with ENTER.
Immediately afterwards, select the language for the installation process and the keyboard. This selection does not determine the subsequent display language of the operating system late in the web UI.
In the next step, the computer name including domain can be defined, under which – in addition to the IP address – the web UI can be reached later.
The password entered on the next page is for the local root user on the device when operating the command line directly on the device or via SSH.
Since more than one drive or USB flash drive is connected, the next step is to pay very close attention. If you are installing to a second USB flash drive, select it now. If you use a dedicated SSD or hard drive, then that one.
Quickly configure the package manager and mirror for the updates, and you’re done with this part of the setup.
Before rebooting, simply remove the installation USB drive from the system and then press ENTER.
After a restart, OpenMediaVault is automatically started after a few seconds, the IP address of the web UI is also there.
