Bonus: NZXT BLD Keyboard
Fortunately, the offer for custom keyboards has not been completely eliminated, but it has been pushed into the background. On the NZXT BLD website is a configurator that allows you to adjust the following parameters:
- Keyboard size (MiniTKL / TKL / Fullsize)
- Top plate color (Black / Gray / White)
- Layout (ANSI / ISO)
- Language (QWERTY / QWERTZ / AZERTY)
- Switch (Gateron Blue / Brown / Red / Aliaz Silent (surcharge) / Silent Black Ink (surcharge)
- Keycap base color (Black / Gray)
- Keycap accent (Blue / Cyan / Purple / Red / Yellow)
- USB cable (Blue / Cyan / Purple / Red / Yellow)
A really great idea, in my opinion. If you don’t necessarily feel like looking for and buying all the parts yourself, you can get a custom keyboard assembled for only 10€ extra plus other options. However, there is one big point of criticism with the custom keyboard: in contrast to the retail version, PBT keycaps are used here, but the lettering is not illuminated. It is only printed on, the LEDs are more of a backlight. Come on NZXT, you almost had it!
The own creation is then delivered in inconspicuous brown boxes, there is no “proper” packaging like in the Retail Function keyboard.
The scope of delivery is identical to the retail version. If you select the corresponding option, a colored USB Type-C cable with a length of 2 meters is also included.
The accent color of the switches is used for Escape, Enter, the arrow keys and the second Enter key on the Numpad. The replaced keycaps were still with me in a small box.
As I said before a really cool idea that I would love to see improved and expanded even further with PBT Doubleshot keycaps.
Perhaps we’ll see similar offerings from other manufacturers in the future, a little more personality really can’t hurt a keyboard, can it?
