Summary and conclusion
Both AMD Anti-Lag and NVIDIA Reflex can reduce system latency. In the CoD MW game, however, the results are nowhere near as significant as they were in Overwatch. I cannot say with absolute certainty or truth what this is due to in particular. On the one hand, in terms of NVIDIA, it may be due to the pure raw performance of the RTX 3060 Ti, or it may be due to the game implementation of Reflex in CoD MW related to DX12 as such. In the case of AMD, I can only say that from my point of view, the implementation of Radeon Boost is not really successful here. Especially when you compare it to Overwatch.
I have an afterburner for you. At AMD’s request, I should repeat the static test series one-to-one dynamically. I did, of course, and the result was sobering from my perspective. But look for yourself!
At the end of the day, Radeon Boost and Anti-Lag produced the same result here. As we already know, it was AMD’s statement that Radeon Boost Anti-Lag only triggers dynamically. As we can see, that’s true at that point, too. But what we could also see that it looks different in other circumstances e.g. in 1080p max settings DXR on (200% render scaling). The same goes for Overwatch, mutatis mutandis! Ultimately, we see that only anti-lag does anything, whether boost on or only anti-lag on. At this point it is completely unnecessary to go into further detail. I’ll spare you the slides, as they don’t help in the slightest. We can only be curious what AMD’s driver team has to say about this or will improve it.
A real conclusion is very difficult for me today, to be honest. The issue of latency reduction is basically achieved, be it through AMD Anti-Lag or NVIDIA Reflex, but my expectations were not even remotely met. It lacks significance in my eyes! A clear conclusion especially if you put the values here in relation to Overwatch. On the other hand, AMD has to be commended for managing to outdo NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 Ti with the RX 6700 XT – even with ray tracing enabled.
If you look at the pure raw performance, then I say: hats off! Unfortunately, and this has to be said just as openly at this point, the implementation of Radeon Boost in CoD MW is more than questionable. Because as it stands right now, it only brings a few FPS, no latency reduction, and on top of that, the graphical losses. Although these are still acceptable in relation to the game, with the exception that the HUD (overlay) is graphically affected by Radeon Boost. By the way, this also refers to the menu! If you have a Radeon GPU and CoD MW at home, feel free to check it out for yourself.
On that note, have a great rest of the week, hoping the rain doesn’t get any worse and everyone stays safe and sound! You read the forum…
The graphics cards were provided to me by Igor for testing purposes, without any influence from Igor or the manufacturers.
