Gigabyte’s Z590 Aorus Tachyon, unlike many other Rocket Lake XOC (Extreme Overclocking) motherboards, has been available virtually since the platform’s launch, albeit in fairly limited quantities. A 2-DIMM topology optimized for RAM overclocking, ample power supply and OC features en masse are supposed to squeeze out the absolute performance maximum from current Intel CPUs. Now finally a sample of the board has made it to us and so today we will test whether it lives up to its reputation and above all the advantage of the longest matured BIOS for the 11th generation Intel core CPU generation.
Packaging and accessories
The packaging is barely larger than the motherboard itself, making it surprisingly small and economical relative to other boards in this price range. But that’s all it needs, because as we all know, the content is more important than the packaging, especially with a board of this class.
While on the front only the product name is printed in colorful reflective writing, on the back we find a short description of the board’s most important features, like the flood of buttons and switches in the upper right corner and the optimized 2-DIMM layout, both specifically optimized for overclocking CPU and RAM. It also lists the “12+1” phases and tantalum polymer capacitors for the CPU power supply, along with a schematic of the IO and a tabulation of the specifications.
Inside you’ll find directly the board in antistatic foil and a frame made of cardboard and soft foam, and below that the usual accessories like IO shield, M.2 screws, SATA cables, WI-FI antenna, instructions as well as a sheet with Aorus stickers. Special additions worth mentioning are two thermistors, an RGB extension cable, a noise detection sensor and the “G Connector” for the front panel.
