Let’s now move on to a direct comparison with the other 2TB SSD in the form of the MSI SPATIUM M480 in the real life of a workstation. The following benchmarks show some astonishing things, where the Corsair SSD can outpace the MSI SPATIUM 480 by miles on the one hand, and on the other hand it even performs a bit slower, depending on the application. If the SSD from Corsair weakens, it is not as extreme as the MSI shows in other applications. Again, it will probably be due to the new Micron modules and the specially adapted firmware.
When it comes to writing, programs like Ansys Icepak and especially Handbrake benefit enormously, the advantage of the MP600 PRO XT is extremely high. However, Maya 2017 and MCAT are counterexamples here, where you actually lose something on the part of Corsair.
Reading is very similar, with exceptions like Maya 2017 and 3dsm, the performance boost is usually extreme, but not quite as extreme as the advantage in writing, leaving Handbrake aside. So the dynamic pSLC cache works after all. At least as long as the NAND technically allows it. When reading, the cache is rather irrelevant.
Yes, the performance has also increased significantly in applications, but you really have to consider whether you really feel it subjectively and whether it really increases the productivity in the individual case so that the surcharge is also worth it. If you can answer yes, you will certainly do everything right with such an SSD, no matter which provider, even if Corsair is ahead in most applications.
Summary and conclusion
If you attach importance to performance, then the Corsair MP600 XT PRO is actually exactly what is currently still technically feasible for the end user with normal effort. There are already a few examples in this performance class from e.g. Seagate, Samsung, MSI or WD, but here Corsair has mustered up the courage and had the Micron design individually optimized once again. Exactly that is really successful, because the performance fits. The SSD is
One can recommend such an SSD to those who are on the hunt for the last ounce of performance and for whom the 5-year (limited) warranty by Corsair takes away a bit of doubt as to how long the controller and the Micron NAND can cope with the switch from pSLC and TLC mode without loss. It is no secret that this is also due to the interaction of controller and flash memory. It’s just that Micron hasn’t been doing this since yesterday. Only the 1400 TBW turn out to be a bit meager, because after exceeding it the warranty is also limited in this respect.
Great product, proud price and it applies as always the old knowledge that the last bit of performance is always the most expensive. If you want to be beautiful, you have to suffer and bleed. Anyway, fast is fast.
