Optics and haptics
So let’s finally take a closer look at the computer. Despite the small size, the aluminum casing makes quite an impression, and the plastic lid matches the rest very well in terms of color.
Fortunately, the UM340 does not have a piano finish that attracts fingerprints. The exterior is dominated by silver metallic with black accents. Various openings on the lower edge of the sides and outlets on the back suggest an inverted interior, more on that later.
Most of the openings for the fan, which is already slightly visible here, are then found on the underside. Besides four rubber feet, the sticker with model name and power consumption, there is only the serial number to be seen here. The two central threads are for the VESA mounting frame.
The front is abundantly equipped with I/O, here are from left to right: Internal microphone, USB Type-C (3.1 Gen 2 + Display Out), USB Type-A (Gen 1 + 2.0 amp charging current), USB Type-A (3.1 Gen 2), AUX (microphone + headset), power button and a CMOS reset button.
Yes, you see and read correctly. In the front, this computer has a small microphone, which I also tested briefly:
And things continue well in the back as well, here we have another two USB Type-A (3.1 Gen 2) ports as well as Displayport, HDMI, two Gigabit LAN ports and the power supply. If you want to protect your mini-PC from theft, you can secure it with a Kensington lock.
That’s all that’s accessible from the outside, on the next page we’ll venture inside.
