Volume flow vs. sound pressure level
Of course, every customer has different premises and you get here a very appealing performance in the case with a sufficient speed band. The Scythe Kaze Flex 120 ARGB is barely louder than the reference, but manages significantly more throughput. It is even significantly quieter with the same throughput. That’s it! The small slip at around 60 CFM (approx. 1700 rpm) can be tolerated, because it doesn’t get any louder above that, on the contrary.
Whoever installs the Scythe Kaze Flex should pay attention to the structure-borne noise and vibrations, which can quickly find a resonator and then put the fan acoustically on the sidelines, even if the fan is quite well decoupled by the rubber corners. Such things are precisely the reason why we work with a large-volume and very rigid chamber and not with a thin and long wind tunnel. This also applies to the end user, who may please pay attention to a good decoupling here.
Volume flow and speeds
We again see the slight bump at 60 CFM where you need slightly higher RPMs, but otherwise the curve is very similar to the reference fan. It is only from 60 CFM that the almost linear increase ends and the curve becomes flatter as far as the increase in flow rate is concerned. So you can see that at about 1550 rpm you can get the optimum in the ratio of airflow and rpm, which is also proven by the first measurement curve above. Or you can give it free rein, which fits in the end.
So you can see that the fan not only delivers what the manufacturer promises, but also delivers quite well in total and compared to the reference. So Scythe and the OEM did everything right and they were well advised to stay on the older approach with the 11 rotor blades and slightly higher static pressure. Especially the performance on the radiators at lower speeds can be fanszining.
Conclusion
If you can’t or don’t want to do without RGB, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for with the Scyte Kaze Flex 120 ARGB. That’s the good news for those who can’t do anything with the brownish colors of the reference and are looking for a powerful, but illuminated equivalent. I hope the final price won’t remain a secret, because the fan will be available for purchase starting today. At least that’s how Scythe communicated it to us. Let’s see.
