Power consumption and temperatures in different situations
Since the two are directly related, we measured again. This time, we compare the power consumption in gaming with the maximum power consumption in the stress test and compare this with the resulting temperatures.
Even in Metro 2033, the temperatures of our Silent profile don’t climb above the 70°C mark, and in Crysis 2, you get even slower into ranges of just over 60°C. But where does this big difference to the still 86°C in Furmark come from?
Looking at the power consumption in gaming, you can see that Powertune does a great job when it is really used for what AMD designed it for. The card is content with an average of less than 190 watts in Crysis 2 despite the 1080 MHz, whereas it is almost 100 watts more in FurMark and often scratches the 300 watt mark in the peaks. This is also very noticeable in the temperatures and acoustically in the increasing fan speeds.
Interim summary
Not only can you live well with the fan profile, you should really take a hand here to not miss out on this advantage. The gaming temperatures and the resulting fan speeds are low enough to do without tight-fitting headphones while gaming. On average, the sound level in the closed case is almost always below 44 dB(A) measured from the side, which cannot really be criticized.
