Not everything can be put on the board via SMT and that's where man comes into play now
By the way, we see very nicely that until almost the end two boards are traded as one unit. This is simply faster and it also explains where the funny demolition and cutting edges at the top edge of the board come from with many graphics cards. Now you know.
Everything manually introduced still has to be soldered and this is exactly what the Wave Soldering ("wave soldering bath") is for. The screen shows very clearly the individual wellness zones from heating up with infrared eamrose and hot air to the actual soldering "bath".
Everything, white hot, must also be cooled down again. And what was not really firmly soldered, flies off again with this brute air pull anyway.
The boards are later cleaned again and even "tropicalized" by some manufacturers, i.e. provided with a fine spray mist of a special paint. This is used for corrosion protection at high humidity.
After all these procedures there is a visual post-check and then comes the screwdriver brigade.
Things, such as the slot bezel, are only screwed at the very end. From now on, it is no longer possible to rework the board itself.
At the very end, the coolers come onto the board. This happens at almost all companies on the carousel, whereby the shape and the right seat are guaranteed by means of suitable tools.
Test the best? Here, all maps are subjected to a functional test and checked. At Zotac, for example, also the models Amp! and Amp! Extreme selected, depending on the achievable clock and then the BIOSe finalized. So these extreme models are really hand-selected! However, I could not photograph this very special process here.
If everything works, then the product can also be put into a colorful box – including the usual bycatch such as adapters, DVDs, etc. Here, too, there are almost more watchdogs, pea counters and security than assembly line workers.
It should also be mentioned that men always earn more than women, even if they do the same job. There is still a lot to change if social peace is to be maintained. However, it was rarely possible to speak directly to the parties involved, because the surveillance state with the social accounts of the perfect good behavior literally works down to the toilet.
To save honour, however, it must also be noted that the working conditions in companies such as PC Partner, MSI or Gigabyte are comparatively good to very good, if one compares it with the Chinese average. In addition to various social institutions, working hours are not excessive, if only to minimise the committee. I can't comment on the rest, because even as a visitor you are under permanent supervision. If you are even partially paranoid, you shouldn't fly there in the first place. Better is better.
And what remains as a conclusion? Production is just one part of the whole and, once enough material has been released, I will write about the development and things like the RMA. But I'll take that up for next time. That was enough input anyway.
