Stream Deck Software
With the Stream Deck software we configure the device. It is essential for the configuration and with about 130 MB download size compared to iCUE and Co. still halfway in the frame. However, it must be executed all the time, otherwise the stream deck will not display anything and will not have any function. The background program occupies about 120 MB in RAM, and with other connected Elgato programs like Wave Link, etc., the occupancy in memory grows, of course.
On the home page, we are greeted by the overview of all the assignable keys of the deck. The 8 buttons are listed at the top, the small touch display underneath and the rotary controls at the bottom.
Here we have put a simple action on a button. When you press the button highlighted in blue, the default browser is launched and www.igorslab.de is called.
In the next example, I connected one of the knobs to the Elgato Wave Link software. In this particular case, the slider controls the volume of the microphone for the stream. The current level of the set volume is shown in the section of the touch display above and the volume is muted when the display is touched or the rotary control is pressed.
With the knobs, you can also “stack” the functions. This means that the knob is assigned several functions that can be cycled through when the knob is pressed. Here we control the brightness (illumination) of the Stream Deck, the color temperature of an (optical) Elgato Keylight and the current output volume of the speakers with a single knob.
In addition to the configured functions and displays, the touch display can also have a background set, more or less like on the desktop. Countless backgrounds are already included in the gallery, and if that’s not enough, you can simply load your own image of choice.
By “swiping” (wiping) across the touchscreen, you can switch between different pages, just like on a smartphone. Each page has its own assignment of all keys and controls, a total of 10 pages can be created.
General settings like device name, brightness and a standby function can still be configured in the program settings. Software updates and setting up the necessary accounts for streaming (Twitch, YouTube and co.) are also possible here.
I won’t go into the extensive “store”, a platform for (free)download of plugins, icons, sound effects, etc. in particular. As already shown on the last page, there are plugins or functions for every conceivable case.
