Volume flow vs. sound pressure level
Of course, every customer has different premises and you get here a very appealing performance in the case with a sufficient speed band. The EK Vardar X3M 120 mm DRGB is almost consistently quieter than the reference and even manages significantly more throughput at the top end of the speed range. It is even significantly quieter with the same throughput. This can please, especially since the fan was free of humming and audible vibrations. That’s a good thing.
Those who install the EK Vardar X3M 120 mm DRGB should pay attention to structure-borne noise and vibrations, which can quickly find a resonator and then put the fan acoustically on the sidelines, even if the fan is quite well decoupled by the huge rubber corners. Such things are precisely the reason why we work with a large-volume and very rigid chamber and not with a thin and long wind tunnel. This also applies to the end user, who may please pay attention to a good decoupling here.
Volume flow and speeds
Once again we see the somewhat limited speed range at the lower end, although apart from this small malus you always need lower speeds than the reference for the same throughput. Otherwise, the curve is very similar to that of the reference fan, only slightly better, thanks to the greater thickness of 25.5 instead of 25 mm. The almost linear climb is good, and the curve at the top doesn’t just flatten out either. Kudos for that, too, of course.
So you can see that the fan not only delivers what the manufacturer promises, but also more than decent in total and compared to the reference. EK and the OEM have therefore done everything right and were well advised to stick to the solution with the 7 rotor blades and to increase the thickness slightly. The performance on the radiators at lower speeds can also convince, even if the fan then decreases a bit. But it’s still good, so I’ll give it a buy tip.
Conclusion
If you can’t or don’t want to do without RGB, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for with the EK Vardar X3M 120 mm DRGB. That’s the good news for all of you who can’t live without ARGB, sorry DRGB (or at least think they can). Only the thickness could still stand in the way of one or the other use, if the radiator and fan can no longer be squeezed between the case wall and the motherboard. I must point this out now, with all due praise. Otherwise, everything fits.
