With this review of the Edifier MR4 Studio Monitor, I’m fulfilling the wishes of those who have repeatedly asked. With prices currently under 100 euros, you can’t really go wrong as long as the user profile is right, because they are anything but gimmicky roaring cubes or colorful plastic tubes with childish LED pacifiers. Minimalism instead of a design accident, that’s what triggers me to do a test. Of course, 100 euros is a very sporty limit, but Edifier showed what’s possible with the R1280 Studio back in the day, where others just waved goodbye. And they currently cost less than 90 euros…
The speakers are designed for near-field use, which means that they are best positioned at a distance of around 1 to 1.5 meters from the listener. The compact size and sophisticated design make them ideal for desks and small studios where precise sound reproduction is required. This is exactly why they have now established themselves as a good choice for budget-conscious music producers, gamers and general audio enthusiasts who don’t need a bass-saturated doormat, but want to hear what’s there above all else. At the current price, they offer a thoroughly impressive combination of sound quality, versatility and build quality in this class, making them a real tip in this price range. They are available in simple but elegant MDF cabinets, in either black or white. Reason enough, therefore, to spend your hundred euros on the community. It is definitely worth it.
Scope of delivery
The MR4 speakers are supplied in a robust, well-padded cardboard box designed to protect the devices during transportation. The outer packaging is simple but functional, with a clear print of the product name and an image of the speakers. The inner packaging is made of form-fitting foam, which holds the speakers securely in place and protects them from knocks. The speakers are also covered with protective film to prevent scratches during transportation. All cables and accessories are stored in separate compartments to avoid confusion and ensure a tidy presentation. The operating instructions and warranty information are enclosed in a separate envelope. But what do we get when we unpack the cards?
A pair of Edifier MR4 speakers (one active speaker with integrated controls and connections and one passive speaker), a cable to connect the active speaker to the passive speaker and a permanently connected mains cable to power the active speaker. There is also a 3.5 mm to RCA cable that allows the speakers to be connected to a variety of audio sources, including computers, smartphones and other audio devices, the printed manual that contains all the important information on setting up and using the speakers (it is written in several languages and provides easy-to-understand instructions) and a warranty certificate that contains the warranty conditions and customer service contact details.
