Connectivity and ports
If you’re looking for a 2.1 speaker system, then you should definitely consider the possible connectivity options. These determine which devices you can connect in the first place. The tested 2.1 system in the form of the Edifier M601DB offers really versatile connectivity options that are compatible with most devices. In addition to the remote control, there is a control panel on one of the speakers for turning the speaker on and off and adjusting the volume. The Bluetooth V5.1 version uses Qualcomm’s aptX, which allows for a faster connection and provides quite high-quality audio output. This allows you to stream music from a mobile source via Bluetooth. A color indicator on top of the active box shows which audio input you have selected.
For ease of use, the Edifier M601DB is equipped with an infrared remote control. On this remote you can find the buttons like on/off, volume up/down, play/pause, previous/next track, aux, line-in, opt, coax, Bluetooth and mute. Connecting the cables isn’t rocket science and can be easily solved without a manual and stress. The pairing button for the subwoofer is offset to the inside and you need a thin nail or a needle to activate it if necessary. However, the subwoofer and satellite found each other ex works. You should use the power switch when you’re not there, because the system doesn’t have a true standby mode with < 0.4 watts of power consumption.
The subwoofer’s panel is even clearer. There is the hole for the pairing nail here as well, but I didn’t need it. The bass control regulates the level of the entire subwoofer, but an adjustment of the crossover frequency is unfortunately not available, which acoustically avenges itself a bit. But I’ll get to that later. The upper frequency of the subwoofer is relatively high at 170 Hz, because the satellite plays considerably lower at 140 Hz (you can still hear the part up to 120 Hz), while the subwoofer can still be heard up to slightly above 200 Hz. There is a lot of overlapping, which I definitely don’t like. If you have an equalizer, you should lower the 125 Hz range considerably. That certainly pleases the ear. Again, the mechanical power switch is the friend of your wallet.
Manual
I don’t want to get lost in details at this point, because those who really like it can quickly read through the manual. For the rest, the whole thing will be too much anyway.
