Corsair XH405i RGB Kit
Next, let’s take a look at the new custom loop kit. Corsair has been offering such kits for some time now, most recently with the XH305i RGB, which has now undergone an extensive overhaul. The kit is marketed as a “wish-no-happiness package”, as we know it from Alphacool, Rainjintek and others.
First of all: water cooling systems are expensive, especially custom loops! In this respect, the kit from Corsair is no exception and comes with a hefty price tag of €749. Out of interest, I put together a similar kit at Alphacool and came up with over 550€, but of course I wouldn’t have the advantages of the iCUE system, nor the appealing look, let alone the extensive range of functions on board.
Let’s first take a look at the Wunschlos-Glücklich package. Once you’ve freed all the components from the box, you first need to get an overview.
First of all, we find a 3-pack of QX120 RGB fans, which we have already presented to you in detail. I’ll show you the photos I took in a gallery so that you can see for yourself how easy it is to install the fans. The plug-in system is really very easy to use, very flexible and simply practical. The fans are also equipped with a temperature sensor and a huge amount of RGB lighting.
To match the three 120mm fans, the kit comes with a 360mm radiator from the XR5 series, which also came off very well in Igor’s big radiator test.
The new XC7 RGB ELITE is used as the CPU block, which can be mounted on all common mainstream platforms. In addition to the RGB lighting, the iCUE-Link cable and the corresponding mounting kits for AMD and Intel, the cooler also comes with pre-applied thermal compound.
The XD5 RGB ELITE pump unit provides the necessary flow. With an integrated expansion tank, lighting and various sensors, this colleague leaves almost nothing to be desired. Various brackets for mounting on 120/140m fans or on compatible points on the case, including mounting material, are of course also included. With a unit price of around €250, this component accounts for a third of the total price.
But the highest flow rate is useless if there are no tubes. Corsair includes six 50cm long hard tubes with a diameter of 14/10mm and at this point at the latest, the interested reader will ask themselves: “Hard tubes in a kit aimed at beginners?”. Wait and see!
A cost factor that should not be underestimated with water cooling is the fittings and connections. Eight straight connections and two 90° angles are included in the kit and with this number you can get pretty far with a pure CPU circuit. Strictly speaking, you only need six connections for such a simple circuit (2x CPU block, 2x radiator, 2x pump)
Of course, Corsair has also thought of the appropriate coolant (1 liter) including filling aid.
Back to the hard tubes in the complete package, which is also supposed to be suitable for beginners. Can this really work and don’t you need all kinds of accessories? Yes, you do. The answer to the question as to why Corsair claims that all you need is a hot air gun is in this little box.
It is the XT Hardline Bending Kit.
With the exception of the aforementioned hot air gun, this kit contains everything you need to install a hard tube circuit.
A saw block and saw, which should allow you to make perfect (90°) cuts without slipping:
A “deburring tool” with which you can cleanly deburr the cuts:
And last but not least, a silicone tube and a bending tool to bend uniform 90° angles. I have to admit that I got a bit nervous at this point at the latest.
As part of the following build diary, I put the kit through its paces and tried my hand at a hard tube circuit for the first time. Spoiler alert: the attempt was successful and really fun!
