Processing and mobility
I usually don’t say anything about the design, because tastes differ. I think it’s a cool idea that Cooler Master uses its logo as a stand. The rest is up to the user. The GP27U is very well manufactured, there is nothing to complain about. In terms of adjustability of the monitor, there are: swivel, tilt, height and portrait. If you have a Vesa mount, you can use that as well.
Connectors, cables and accessories
Everything your heart desires is here. A 3.5 jack audio connector, 2x HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbit/s), DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, 2x USB-A and 1x USB-B as well as USB-C with DisplayPort and 90 Watt power supply for the laptop, cell phone or tablet. The customer gets a KVM switch on top and Cooler Master also supplies all the cables needed for this.
OSD
The GP27U offers a very comprehensive OSD menu. Besides the gaming features like crosshairs – various other options are added. So you can choose the color space you would like to have. By default, the color space is set to Auto (BT.2020). But, you can also switch to sRGB, Adobe RGB or DCI-P3. In addition, Cooler Master does not lock the OSD, so you still have the option to adjust gamma, white point and brightness.
The only criticism regarding the OSD is that you can’t confirm input by pressing the joystick as usual. To confirm something by pressing enter, you have to move the joystick to the right. So you can imagine how often I sat in front of the monitor and wanted to… beep beep beep. Whoever came up with this idea gets a special award from me: “The golden end of the food chain and as the main prize at least a day ticket on Darwin’s monkey rock!”
Software
Cooler Master does not currently have any dedicated software that makes the OSD clicking superfluous in relation to the monitors. At least nothing is known to me! If you already have a GP27U or a GP27Q, you should check the Cooler Master homepage under the corresponding product for possible firmware updates. There you will also find the instructions on how to install such an update. Please be sure to read it beforehand (e.g. the Word document click here!) and follow the instructions, otherwise it can happen that you completely shoot down your monitor.
You can also download an older firmware and flash the monitor back. This is not possible for every monitor. If you already own a GP27U, you can follow the link: Click here!
Attention:
There are two versions of the monitor, so you have to look for your serial number to not install the wrong firmware update.
