Summary and interim conclusion
Below I summarize about 3 weeks of trial and error, frustration and at some point resignation. After my painstakingly scanned mouse could no longer be restored, I turned my attention to other objects. I was inspired by the picture of a car in the instructions, so I can try out the tracking stickers right away.
So, much to my partner’s delight, I stuck the dots all over the front of her car, selected the largest scan mode and tried my luck. But sooner or later the tracking would be lost and the actually quite good-looking model would be messed up again
After a good 2 hours, I gave up and went back to smaller objects. But I never really got anything useful out of it. Except for the knowledge that cylindrical objects don’t seem to work at all.
I then faced my personal boss, the Logitech mouse, again. Maybe it works better in tracking points mode than in geometry mode.
It’s just stupid when suddenly no more points are captured despite the camera feed.
After a further restart of all devices involved, the display worked again, but Creality Scan did not save it despite the ongoing capture.
The crowning glory was the bug where scanning only works if no active project is loaded. If you start a scan directly from the main menu, there is no problem. But if you start it as an additional part, it doesn’t work again. That was the moment when I stopped my test for the time being. Over several firmware and software versions, I never managed to complete a project with a truly satisfactory result. Some things have improved over time, for example, this finely divided display for the optimum distance on the left-hand side did not exist at the beginning.
I have discarded many recordings, screenshots and attempts and will not show you any more examples of what does not work.
With the code“NNNDECRPRO” you can get 130 Euro discount at Geekbuying. This is a referral link, but I do not accept any commissions offered by the manufacturer. Neither I nor IgorsLab earn money by using the voucher code provided.
Using the voucher, you end up with a final price of 339 euros at the time of publication. Somewhere in the Ferret Pro 3D scanner is a good device that you can always catch a quick glimpse of before the next problem blocks your view. However, I simply cannot make a recommendation at the moment. One day before release, I noticed that the version 3.1.30 I was using can no longer be downloaded from the manufacturer. Only version 2.3.5 from December 2023 is still available. I wonder if anyone has noticed how many problems there are? Possibly, but testing is done in development, not by the customer.
I will give it some more time and try again at a later date, I haven’t given up completely yet.
The test sample was provided by Geekbuying without obligation. There was and is no influence on the tests and results. There was also no compensation for expenses and no obligation to publish.
