Ergonomics and battery life
The KATAR ELITE is specially designed for players with claw or fingertip grip technique and kept accordingly slim. With a weight of only 69g, it is a true lightweight despite the built-in battery and wireless technology and can be maneuvered accordingly pleasantly and in conjunction with the MARKSMAN sensor even over the mouse pad.
Since I use the palmgrip, my fingertips are almost at the ends of the primary mouse buttons, and to press the “back” shoulder button, I have to pull my thumb back quite a bit. With the other two grip techniques, it should still fit even with somewhat larger hands, but the KATAR ELITE is just not huge.
The narrow body makes the mouse particularly easy to grip.
I had the KATAR ELITE in use for a test period of about 34 hours (SLIPSTREAM with 2000Hz interrogation rate and illumination at 50%) and the battery level indicator still showed “Medium”. I know from the other devices that the display then jumps to low at some point and to critical shortly after, so I assume about 40 hours under the given conditions.
Productivity / Drawing
I came up with something for the practical test a few reviews ago, which was not very well received by many readers. I had “painted” some shapes in MS Paint, described my impressions of them, and included the resulting image in the review. I understood the criticism that this methodology is not really comprehensible, but I consider the test itself to be quite meaningful – at least if you had the mouse in your hand during it. That’s why I stuck with the methodology until I came up with something more comprehensible. I continue to take suggestions from the community in this regard.
While doodling in Paint, I got some meaningful impressions again. With its light weight, wide PTFE gliding feet and no cables at all, it maneuvers very smoothly over the mouse pad. When drawing, however, you quickly notice that not only the gliding capabilities are top, but also that the sensor is extremely precise. Especially small circular movements are simply implemented more cleanly than in many other mice, probably also thanks to the high query rate of 2000Hz. Thus, the KATAR ELITE also cuts a very good figure on the productive desk in my eyes.
Gaming / CS:GO
In the usual CS:GO botmatch I made a few flicks with the AWP, which I didn’t even think I could do in my mid-30s. Unfortunately I hadn’t recorded the beginning of the match, there were quite different frags than the boring following scene.
I liked the KATAR ELITE even better in this discipline than in drawing. I’ve said it many times before and I’m sure I will more, but in my eyes the MARKSMAN sensor is simply one of the best you can put in a gaming mouse right now. The precision with which fast movements are implemented is absolute top notch. The wired version with 8000Hz from their own ranks might still be a bit more sensitive, but for a wireless mouse, the KATAR ELITE definitely lives up to its name.
Soundcheck
At the end still the obligatory sound check. As usual from Corsair, there is not really anything to criticize about the workmanship. The selected keys work impeccably and provide decent haptic feedback. Of course, the acoustic feedback can only be described to a limited extent, so a few recordings as usual.
