Software
Corsair uses iCUE, of course, which has been slimmed down by some features in the meantime, respectively has outsourced them to optional modules. I used iCUE Core in version 5.3.102, the keyboard has firmware 0.10.32 installed. My installation was 505 Mb, I have seen more than double that in the past.
The following settings are available:
By the way, without iCUE, the 8000Hz USB polling rate, which Corsair advertises as an important part of this keyboard, cannot be activated.
For my part, I couldn’t notice any noticeable difference, neither here nor when I tried a keyboard from another manufacturer with a comparable feature. However, the option certainly can’t do any harm.
Summary and conclusion
Apart from writing this review article, I also spent a few hours gaming with this keyboard in the evenings and can report positively that a lot of space for the mouse is freed up by such a compact keyboard. Since I mainly play shooters and hardly need more than WASD and a few other keys, I didn’t really miss anything compared to my normal keyboard.
Although at first I felt like I had to bring my fingers a little closer together, after a while that goes away with regular use. What’s also gone is a good chunk of money out of your wallet after purchase. The very high price compared to many competitors is also the main reason why the product was not rated higher. Despite all the enthusiasm, you really don’t have to want to break the financial sound barrier every time, just so that the others hear the bang properly.
Corsair has a recommended retail price of 150 Euros for this keyboard. Although you get a well-made aluminum case and PBT double-shot keycaps for that, you also only get the normal 2-year warranty. I’m quite sure that a keyboard in this format is definitely not a mass product and rather aimed at a niche, but I would perhaps wait a bit for better availability and falling prices. At the current time, however, no German retailer carries the K65 Pro Mini yet.
The test sample was provided by Corsair without obligation. There was and is no influence on the tests and results. There was also no compensation for expenses and no obligation to publish.
