If you compare the absolute values of the Corsair AF Elite Series AF140 Elite with those of the reference, you will unfortunately often hear a bit more of the operating noise. Pressure does create counterpressure, even on the ears, but in relation to the delivered airflow, the AF140 is simply way too loud. Even fans for less than 10 Euros can do that better (e.g. Arctic). There is at least no humming across the rev band, at least somewhat. And for the rest, there are our long-term recordings.

Sound comparison (recording) at all speeds
As just mentioned, the subjective sensation is a somewhat clearer noise from the motor and the rotor blades, which is of course also due to the different speeds. The fan produces considerably more motor noise, and the tearing noise at the rotor blade edges is also quite audible. But: everything has been amplified here in the recordings, of course, so that you can hear it. In practice, you have to listen like a lynx.

If the speakers have survived the whole thing up to this point, we’ll now go into more detail.
Frequency spectrum in the housing
Let’s look at the frequency analyses of all measurements and all three tested speeds. The graphs speak for themselves, as there are hardly any disturbing peaks that lie outside the expected speed ranges for bearings and rotor blades. With the determined 20.6 dBA at around 400 rpm, we have reached the limit of our measurement technology, which is an extremely good value in itself. Chapeau!
At 1000 rpm we are already well above the quieter fans, especially the low-frequency peak is a bit annoying.
At the maximum possible 1600 rpm, you can really hear the devil puke, because it gets really loud with over 45 dBA. But whether you need such a thing at all is a matter of taste and belief. But I wouldn’t need something like that.
