Application Benchmarks
Dear good old real-world performance and real applications, this is where the wheat is separated from the chaff and dreams from reality. The write rates show us very clearly that such a USB solution works perfectly well as a data grave, but isn’t really suitable for direct work with applications if you need more than just SATA speed.
Reading looks a bit better, but the bottom line is that we are back in the normal SATA range, which is definitely not satisfying.
Summary and Conclusion
The Cooler Master Oracle Air SSD Enclosure is a very solid external M2. Enclosure with which one has very much really done right. The somewhat too thin pad is not really conducive to cooling, however; if two pads are already included, a second one with a thickness of 1.5 mm could also be used here. The somewhat weak JMicron controller should not have been necessary, especially since it would be technically possible to loop the status values of the SSD and controller through to the outside. Otherwise, it’s a thermal blind flight with touching. Really hot controllers really start to sweat and reach their thermal limits with the original pad because they are poorly cooled. With a better pad, the case also gets significantly warmer, which is good. However, the case is only suitable for single-sided SSDs, which is another drawback.
Visually and haptically, there is nothing to criticize, the manufacturing quality is good, and so are the gaps. The fact that a special alloy is used, which positively influences cooling, molding and durability, is a testament to a good OEM and the thoughtfulness of those involved. This has to be praised, despite the compromises in the finish. At 53 Euros, you are no longer in the cheap segment, but the Cooler Master Oracle Air SSD Enclosure is well worth the price based on the positive features. The application range is somewhat limited due to the interface, but Cooler Master can’t help that. It is and remains an external solution. With all the advantages but also disadvantages.
