Synthetic benchmarks
I test the whole thing with a WD Blue 1TB on a MSI MEG X670E Ace together with Ryzen 9 7950X on the native USB 3.2 interface (CPU) of the board (Type C). The stated ample 1 GB/s is not quite reached with the warmed-up SSD, but at least almost. That can be left as it is for now. However, such benchmarks are good for the gallery, but not for daily life. But you can give it a try.
Streaming
The AJA benchmark is often used in the industry, studios and also in system houses to simulate the continuous writing of larger video streams. The writing already reveals the weakness of the used controller, because it was definitely not due to the installed SSD (WD Blue with 1TB). The write rate dropped extremely to SATA speed from just under 12 GB. A counter test with the WD Blue in the M2. Slot of the motherboard did not show such a behavior. The write rate was still just under 2 GB/s there.
Reading was then as usual and balanced with maximum speed.
I then repeated the whole thing twice more and also created a log in the third run:
