Summary Mobius 120
Without the glowing RGB backpack, the burden of the high price is much easier to bear and the goal has been fully achieved. The specifications in the spec sheet are, as always, a fair-weather and marketing story, but what is delivered in reality is also really impressive. Above all, the fact that the fans perform almost as well on the radiators as they do as pure case fans certainly puts them on the shortlist for water cooling setups.
The entire rev band is de facto free of humming and the performance is above average. All this happens without producing too much background noise. The Cooler Master Mobius 120s are really quiet and below 800 rpm you already need bat ears. At the 100 rpm, i.e. just before they run out, nothing can be measured in the chamber either except ourselves. The purchase tip is well deserved, especially since you can also buy the unlit be quiet! Silent Wings 4, but speed-adjusted , the Mobius 120 outperforms it at similar sound pressure levels, especially on radiators.
By the way, Noctua was chosen as a counterpart and yes, that also fits and turns out quite well on air coolers for Cooler Master. We didn’t test this category as well, but it roughly comes to values in the direction of 60 mm radiator. And they look really good according to our tests.
Summary Mobius 120P ARGB
That ARGB helps with cooling (especially the ice-blue settings) is probably more of a marketing legend. This is also the case here, where the additional LEDs even have a negative impact. The reasons why the nominally equally heavy fan with higher speed options is nevertheless behind are a bit unclear. Of course, it could be the slightly higher weight and a possibly also slightly larger imbalance due to the LED strip, but it’s not quite as easy to find out. The tooling is de facto the same for both impellers, only the material is a bit different.
Conclusion
In terms of price, Cooler Master is in the upper mid-range and even sniffs at the 30 euro upper class feeling. At least the Cooler Master Mobius 120 can really annoy similarly priced competitor products and push itself right to the front in this price and performance class. The light buoy in the form of the Mobius 120P ARGB can’t really keep up, even if the 4 euro additional price doesn’t seem that much at first. However, the performance is worse and you actually get less on balance besides more light. Cooler Master must have been aware of this, otherwise they would not have set the maximum speed much higher. This only helped to a limited extent and not at all on radiators.
However, we can summarize that Cooler Master will be able to cut off a nice piece of the market pie here, if the marketing is not completely blind. The performance is good in both cases and even the somewhat weaker ARGB fan is still better than the absolute mediocrity of the targeted price range. The 26 cm thickness is, let’s call it politely, a slight cheating, but so what. You just have to know it as a buyer so you don’t have to be claustrophobic.
The unlit Mobius 120 is really really good and doubly surprising as one of the quietest fans ever tested. You can hardly hear it, but you can feel it. And that is exactly the goal of a very good fan.
