Summary
The new Silent Wings 4 (Pro) from be quiet! the 140 mm model seamlessly continues what was already possible with the 120 mm Silent Wings 4. The innovations are found as with the smaller diameter rather detail and that is also good. The sealing of the rotor opening is as interesting as the different corners for support and decoupling. Whether you really need the speed range switch on the Pro model or not is up to you. Because you will hardly need more than 1100 rpm as a normal user. Unless you put these fans on radiators.
In the normal speed range, the fans from be quiet! really quiet at the same speed or similar throughput, despite the criticized peaks in some frequency ranges (depending on the installation type). Whether you then also unleash the hurricane on the radiator up to 2400 rpm is a rather individual decision for the more expensive Pro version, which is otherwise identical in construction. Because let’s be honest: Anyone who really needs such a volume flow either has the radiators incorrectly dimensioned or is sitting in Dubai in the blazing sun laughing at us.
Conclusion
I have long thought about whether or not to give the fan a buy tip now. However, the normal version with its just under 22 Euros is really good enough in relation to the competitors to be able to make a recommendation here with a clear conscience. Starting at around 22 euros street price, you can get a good price with the be quiet! Silent Wings 4 is an honest and well-functioning upper-class fan, which is not extremely cheap, but worth the money. The Pro version is already in the premium segment at 30 Euros and is a bit too much for normal users.
The difference to the rubber band measurement of the be quiet! lab was also interesting and I even waver to at least validate the run as a case fan in the future still with a free hanging setup. Because the difference between theory, laboratory measurement and practice can be quite large. And of course audible. Our mentor from the industry also measures in the fixed state (not only because of the weight), but that is perhaps even once an extra topic, where I have to consult a specialist. Because even though I may have a good overview of the practice, it’s not my area of expertise. And then it is better to leave it to others.
