The app as a controller replacement!
Unfortunately, it is difficult to access the controls and switches when the subwoofer is installed, so it is only logical to use Bluetooth in a suitable app, which is available for iOS and Android. Installing from the respective store is well-known and does not need to be explained. However, the subwoofer must NOT be connected via the Bluetooth settings of the smartphone, but only via the app! Activate pairing and go…
The part is really fast and is recognized without complaint. We can quite easily change the phase (especially popular at close range) and switch the inputs (standby power consumption). On and off also go, of course.
In addition, the low pass (upper cutoff frequency) can be adjusted or the relative level can be easily changed via slider.
None of this is witchcraft, so let’s bravely turn on the room calibration first!
Room calibration is a must!
The burst diagram then also shows very nicely how the office, which was once measured as an example, “resonates” and various resonances still stick in the ears like wax afterwards. In the measuring room, this always looks quite different, but here it is simply the reality of the spatial conditions that becomes the acoustic grounding cable. But for what this room (doesn’t) offer, the adjustment options via app or hearing still allow for a lot of relief. At least something.
Convenient: the app can calibrate and “calibrate” fully automatically and if you change furniture, rebuild or even move later, you can repeat the process as often as you like. Especially the dreaded room modes can spoil the bass enjoyment. But I have already spoken out often enough on this subject. By the way, the correction curve and its difference can also be used to judge the suitability of the installation location for the subwoofer quite well.
The correction information can then be permanently loaded into the EPROM of the subwoofer.
Alternative for Android users
Since the microphone variants for Android phones are probably in the thousands, a calibration is only available via an add-on module, unlike the current iPhone I use, but Nubert now also offers it in the store. This is definitely worth the extra expense, because proper calibration is incredibly important and is unfortunately often underestimated. The value of such an action can usually only be appreciated when you have made the before-after comparison with your own ears and the undefined boom is suddenly gone
