Software
The Falchion RX Low Profile offers customizable features with the ROG Armoury Crate software. Users can remap keys, create macros and fine-tune RGB lighting, giving them full control over the functionality and appearance of their keyboard.
You can decide whether you want to install the full Armoury Crate software package or just a slimmed-down version for the keyboard. In this case, I used the slimmed-down version, because the full software package only makes sense if you use more than one ASUS device.
Latency
I’ve only been measuring the end-to-end latency of keyboards since the Sharkoon PureWriter W65, so my comparison database is still limited. Nevertheless, it almost blew my eyes out when I measured the Falchion RX. But take a look at what’s going on.
Please also note that I have the ASUS ROG Harpe ACE AimLab Edition connected to the same dongle. So two devices at the same time. This doesn’t affect the latencies at all. The elegance with which the same latencies are reproduced over and over again is unbelievable. BenQ can take a leaf out of their book with the Zowie U2. I’ll introduce you to the ASUS ROG Harpe ACE after my vacation, don’t worry.
Comparison of cable vs. dongle vs. Bluetooth
Comparison with other keyboards
I didn’t expect the Falchion to be so much faster. You can see the advantage of the optical mechanical buttons and, above all, that ASUS has done its homework here with regard to the dongle. The difference between cable and dongle lies in the measurement tolerance. As expected, the latency via Bluetooth is significantly worse. I cannot recommend gaming via Bluetooth. Take a look at the dispersion:
This is what it should look like:
If you’re wondering why a keyboard with a 1000 Hz polling rate performs significantly worse than a mouse, I have a suitable explanation. You should note that I can and may only make relative comparisons with this method, as the absolute latency I measured is dominated by Windows and the rendering of the application. There is a special mode for mouse latency that measures the latency between click and received packet in PC mode. This is the small but significant difference. A comparison between keyboards is therefore feasible in relative terms, but not with mice, and it should not be understood as an absolute and certainly not be judged as such.
Sound check
Let’s start with the normal typing.
Here the space bar, enter and backspace
Typing with the Falchion RX Low Profile is indescribable in terms of sound: very quiet, without resonating noises etc. ASUS has really hit my taste. Since June 18, I’ve been using the keyboard in my home office, when playing Gray Zone Warfare and for all the articles I’ve written since then. The switch from the Sharkoon PureWriter was extreme for me. The key spacing on the Falchion is only four millimeters, a whole two millimeters smaller than on the PureWriter.
If you have been used to the PureWriter for years, then the retraining unfortunately takes time until the muscle memory has reconditioned itself. You need a little patience. The Falchion RX Low Profile will stay here indefinitely, it will become my new work and gaming beast. Of course in combination with the mouse, which I will introduce to you later. That’s all for today.
