The NUC14 Pro has fearlessly taken on the great legacy of its name and has proven itself worthy according to the test results. Depending on the benchmark, we are dealing with a new frontrunner at the time of publication, which also leads the ranking in some cases:

A full scan with Windows Defender revealed no findings, and Asus also keeps bloatware in check in other respects. And Asus has one more advantage on the software side that the competition from the Far East can only dream of: A BIOS and firmware update was downloaded directly via Windows Update and installed on the next reboot. Only the really big players on the market get this kind of preferential treatment.

The fact that the processor is allowed to consume up to 150 watts in boost mode in such a small system is courageous. Under full load, the NUC14 becomes clearly audible at some point, but for my taste the fan hysteresis is set a little too sensitively even in less demanding scenarios.

The variant I tested here with a Core Ultra 9 185H costs 850 euros as a barebone without RAM and SSD at the time of testing. For this you get one of the most powerful mini systems on the market, but then you really have to know exactly why you need it. A warranty that can actually be enforced, customer service available by phone and live chat and guaranteed software updates are also reflected in the price. And yet I’m pleased to see that the “forefather” of mini PCs can shine in its latest form, and not just in photos.
