No, today is not about real hardware that you can’t buy anyway! Today it’s about software for all AMD graphics card owners or those who want to become one, if they could, if there is something to buy again. The team around AMD’s Radeon driver development has always managed to get more performance out of AMD graphics cards over time. It’s no secret that AMD graphics cards are like good red wine, which gets better and better over time if it hasn’t been adulterated.
Here is an example regarding the performance development since the launch of the RX 5700 XT compared to the Nvidia RTX 2060 Super. AMD reports a performance increase of up to 23 percent (in a certain game). Unfortunately, I can’t provide any comparison data at this point, I don’t have the RTX 2060 Super for this. But it would certainly be an interesting article to have a detailed look at the performance development of the two opponents. Maybe this would be something for Igor?
But today we don’t want to talk about the eternal fight between AMD and Nvidia, but only about the new features that the driver 21.4.1 brings for all AMD graphics card owners. And that’s quite a lot! I will present you all essential innovations here very briefly. I can’t go into everything in detail because this is just going to be news and ultimately what we have here is a software-only product. What I can assure you though is that I will be looking at some of the new features in separate articles! Unfortunately the necessary hardware was not available in time. My regards go to DHL at this point. Expected delivery date was 04/12/2021… How can that be?
Ok, doesn’t look too bad, but it gets embarrassing in the next picture. At least for DHL!
At this point, I’ll leave it at ranting and hope that the mail really does hit me today. Then let’s see what the new driver or the software from AMD brings so everything. And if not – Igor wisely insured the package. The only thing is that you can’t currently get products for money and you can’t benchmark notes very well. But they do fit in the slot. Nevertheless, I was able to test and confirm many things. Except for a few questions and issues that AMD unfortunately hasn’t answered yet, so we’ll have to get that in as well.
The driver installation
Those who download the new driver will be able to choose between a full installation, minimal installation and just the driver. Why this change or choice now? From my perspective, AMD has taken a step in the right direction here. Since not everyone needs a full installation including the software. Especially for users of laptops or office PCs this is an interesting topic. So if you only use one APU and thus want to do without the software due to memory or resource utilization, you can decide for yourself what you need here for the first time.
Who wants to decide here still in detail, which can select from further options.
We AMD graphics card owners are now spoilt for choice. But that’s far from the only change that Release 21.4.1 brings.
