AMD EPYC 4124P: Zen 4 prodigy overclocked to an incredible 6.6 GHz on a B650 board!

AMD’s EPYC 4124P “Zen 4” CPU is a quad-core processor that was originally developed for entry-level servers and workstations. Recently, this processor was overclocked to a clock speed of 6.6 GHz, which was made possible by using a B650 mainboard. The overclocker Sergamann was able to set a record with the EPYC 4124P on a Gigabyte B650E AORUS Tachyon mainboard by modifying the processor with a special cooling method, liquid nitrogen cooling. He was able to achieve a clock frequency of 6,664.75 MHz and a 7-Zip score of 82,943 MIPS.

The AMD EPYC 4004 CPUs, which include the EPYC 4124P, were launched in May this year and are designed for use in low-cost servers and workstations. These processors are compatible with the AM5 socket, which means that they can be used on motherboards with a B650 chipset. Although not all motherboard manufacturers officially support these processors, recent results show that users can successfully run these CPUs on many B650 motherboards. This not only allows them to be used in low-cost workstations, but also allows the processor to be overclocked to achieve higher performance.

The EPYC 4124P is limited to a clock frequency of 5.1 GHz in standard operation, but this limit could be exceeded using liquid nitrogen cooling and special settings. Sergamann achieved the aforementioned 6,664.75 MHz with its Gigabyte B650E AORUS Tachyon motherboard. This motherboard does not belong to the category of dedicated server hardware, but is rather used in the consumer sector. Nevertheless, it has been made possible to significantly increase processor performance through overclocking.

Other overclockers have had similar success. The overclocker OBSCUREPARADOX achieved a clock rate of 6,591.57 MHz with an ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 mainboard. Another overclocker, SPLAVE, also achieved similar results, reaching almost 6.5 GHz on the same motherboard. These results prove that even mid-range motherboards are capable of running the EPYC 4004 processors and achieving higher performance through overclocking.

Despite the success of overclocking, it should be noted that these B650 motherboards do not offer all the functions required in server environments. One example of this is the lack of support for ECC memory, an important feature for data integrity in critical applications. However, it is clear that even with limited features and without the official support of all mainboard manufacturers, these processors can be used in many configurations.

While motherboard manufacturers such as ASUS have already announced support for certain EPYC 4004 models on some of their B650 chipset motherboards, these processors are still missing from the official CPU support lists of motherboards such as the Gigabyte B650E AORUS Tachyon and the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2. Nevertheless, the latest results show that these processors can be used even without official support.

The AMD EPYC 4004 series is specifically designed for entry-level servers and workstations and offers a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive server CPUs on the market. The fact that many B650 mainboards support these processors and higher performance is possible through overclocking extends the application possibilities of this hardware.

5000, 7000, 9000.

Mehr gibt es dann mit dem 9990X PRO, octa ECC RAM.

Ein X reicht nicht für ein BZZZzzz bis in die Stratosphäre.

Blitze sind immer noch eine Laune der Natur. ⛈️
