Collateral damage?
It’s amazing that the rest of the technology survived despite the excess liquid and the short circuit. Even the DVD burner, despite a somewhat scorched facade, still has the courage to live. Again, a before and after experience. This was the original state…
…and this is what it looked like afterwards. But it still ran.
Conclusion and summary
Price question: Would I want to use this part or other cases of this series again and move even one step out of the room as long as the PC is turned on?
Not one meter – and then probably only via my fire extinguisher (using the term “corpses” would be too dramatic for me). Whereby: Does anyone actually pay scrapping premiums for casings? I’d like to have an application form, there’s still something here…
Update from back then
It’s obviously not an isolated case and also not a fly from the Erzgebirge, which doesn’t allow me to have my morning coffee, but simply a production error. Thanks to amd64 from our forum for googling – here you can see the fire story even more clearly, as it could be stopped sooner: WARNING ! AeroCool Strike X ST – Almost burned my whole PC
Note: The link has been killed in the meantime, like so many things by the new operators of Tom’s Hardware, who also had all my older German articles before 2018 removed in the Waybackmachine, although they don’t own the copyrights at all.
