XD5 pump unit with AGB
Let’s start with the XD5 pump first. This has been on the market for some time and is also used here in the kit. The whole unit is already pre-assembled and can be installed directly so at its destination in the housing. We have also included some accessories for this, such as a temperature sensor that we can connect to our Commander Pro. But more about that later.
Additionally, there are blind plugs, an RGB cable, and screws and brackets (to clamp the pump-AGB combination in front of a fan). In addition, there is also a power supply bridge so that we can switch on only the pump when filling.
Let’s take a closer look at the pump. First of all, the shape is striking, because it is octagonal and stands out well from the other shapes (round or square) and thus sticks in your mind. The build quality is good and solid, which is probably also due to the fact that Corsair uncharacteristically chose nylon as the material for the AGB. According to the manufacturer, nylon should be less sensitive to scratches and discoloration of the tube. To check this, however, a long-term test with nasty pastel coolant (which you don’t actually do) is probably required.
The lid itself also has RGB lighting that can be controlled with the ICUE software.
The XD5 has a total of five connection options. Two of these are on the lid and three on the lower third, where one connection can be used only for the outlet, while the other two can optionally also be used as an inlet or for a ball valve. Since we still have a temperature sensor enclosed, we can also use it here at the same time. It doesn’t really get any more convenient than this.
My application example for this would be: use the two front connections for the outlet and ball valve and then use the one on the side for the temperature sensor.
Let’s move on to the pump itself. As already mentioned, this is a Xylem/ Laing D5, which is also very popular with other manufacturers and is very popular among users. This has the advantage that it is completely maintenance-free and enables almost silent operation.
The pump has a Molex connector for power supply and a PWM connector for pump control. The control range here is 20 to 100 percent, and the maximum delivery volume is a whopping 800 L/h
