AMD unveils the Radeon RX 7650 GRE: RDNA 3 once again for CES 2025

AMD is currently preparing to launch a new RDNA 3 graphics card, reports Hoang Anh Phu via X, the Radeon RX 7650 GRE, which is expected to be unveiled at CES 2025. This GPU is part of the so-called Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) series and could be the last addition to the RDNA 3 family before AMD unveils its new RDNA 4 architecture in the first quarter of 2025.

Detailed specifications for the RX 7650 GRE are not yet available. However, AMD has already launched two models in the RX 7600 series: the RX 7600 and the RX 7600 XT. Both use the Navi 33 graphics core, which comprises 32 compute units, 2048 stream processors and 64 AI accelerators. Both cards have a 128-bit memory interface that works with 18 Gbps modules. The RX 7600 XT is equipped with 16 GB of memory and achieves clock speeds of up to 2.76 GHz, while the RX 7600 comes with 8 GB of memory and clock speeds of up to 2.66 GHz. The power consumption is 190 watts for the XT version and 165 watts for the non-XT version.

It remains to be seen how AMD will position the RX 7650 GRE in comparison to these existing models. As the RX 7600 series already covers the lower price range, the RX 7650 GRE could be introduced as another low-cost option. Previous GRE releases have typically been limited to the Asia-Pacific region, however there are indications that AMD plans to release GRE models in the US and Europe as well. One example of this is the RX 7900 GRE, which has been made available in several regions. There is a possibility that the RX 7650 GRE is based on a stripped down Navi 32 core. This would be a logical choice, as it would make little sense to release a third graphics card with the Navi 33 core, which is already used in two existing models. The move to a different chip could help to differentiate it more from the existing RX 7600 models.

In terms of price, the RX 7650 GRE is expected to be in the same segment as the RX 7600 and RX 7600 XT, both of which are available for under $300. With the upcoming launch of the RDNA 4 architecture, which is designed for budget and mainstream markets, the question is how long AMD will continue to expand the RDNA 3 lineup. The launch of the Radeon RX 7650 GRE could therefore serve as a transitional solution before AMD launches its next generation of graphics cards. It remains to be seen what decisions AMD will make in terms of pricing and specifications in order to integrate this card into the existing portfolio.
