Temperature behavior
Now we come to the temperature behavior. The well-known B650E platform with Ryzen 9 7900 (PBO on) was again used as the test system. The graphics card of choice was once again the RX 7700XT Pure. As the summer temperatures are now over, the test environment had almost “ideal conditions” for the hardware at a room temperature of 21.5°C.
General conditions:
AIO fans: 800rpm
Case fans: 500rpm
Pump: 4000rpm
Room temperature: 21.5°C
CPU Torture
For the CPU stress test, I again used Cinebench R23 in continuous loop. Almost over the entire test, 160W was applied, at the end of the test an allcore boost of 5050MHz was applied (PBO on). The temperature had gradually approached the 95°C specified “by design” until it finally maintained this temperature continuously.
Gaming workload
Borderlands 3 was again used for the gaming test, as it practically fully utilizes the graphics card throughout and therefore generates a lot of waste heat. Especially with AIOs mounted in the lid, this has a significant effect on the CPU temperature, as the waste heat from the graphics card is transported outside through the radiator. A lot of compiling obviously has to be done at game start, which is why there was a brief rise in temperature to almost 80°C, after which the CPU stabilized in the mid 50°C range.
Even the AMD graphics card can’t embarrass the lush light base. A barely tolerable 1535 rpm were enough to maintain a boost clock of 2611 MHz, which is a very decent result. The temperature remained in the mid 50°C range, so everything was pretty relaxed in the airy environment.
The HotSpot was also absolutely harmless at ~84°C. The delta to the GPU temperature is generally quite high on the card, maybe I’ll upgrade it to a Honeywell pad soon.
Interim conclusion
As expected, the hardware used could not even begin to push this “large-capacity case” to its limits. In view of the possibilities (2x420mm 1x360mm radiator), it can also be assumed that no consumer hardware available at this time (extreme OC excluded!) will exceed the limits of the Light Base 900. The nice-looking Light Wings fans already transported the waste heat out of the case at a quiet whispering 500 rpm and at the same time supplied the hardware with fresh air, so that no annoying speeds were necessary. Whether air or water, the Light Base 900 can cool the latest high-end hardware efficiently and quietly in any case.
