The SLC cache
First, let’s take a look at when the SSD runs out of SLC cache. To do this, I move 1TB from the MSI Spatium M480 to the Kingston NV3.
After about 500 GB, the write rates collapse. Then it continues at SATA speed. Now I fill the SSD several times to check whether the performance remains constant – or was just a flash in the pan. So I fill the SSD three times and format it before repeating the tests.
The last 150 GB of free memory show the Kingston NV3 its limits. But you also have to classify this correctly. Firstly, the SSD is almost full and therefore there is not much QLC memory left that the controller can use as an SLC cache for a short time. Once the SLC is used up, you get the write rates of a SATA SSD. In the worst case, you may even only get around 300 MB/s – you need to know that. As a general rule, SSDs should only be filled up to 80 percent to prevent such a bottleneck.
Full is full, even if there are still 5 GB free. Let’s not be more pontifical than the Pope himself.
Almost the 6TB described, now it’s getting exciting. I’ll repeat the benchmarks now, but I’ll refer to the maximum settings straight away. Just for your information, I have now formatted the SSD.

We start again with the CrystalDiskMark: 64GB and the whole thing 5 times in a row
Look at that! It wasn’t just me who was surprised, Igor was too. Most inexpensive SSDs collapse significantly after being filled several times. Not the Kingston NV3! Not even when I refill the NV3 with one TB (54 percent).
But what do the ATTO and AJA say now?
I would say that the NV3 can do something. With the ATTO, it is even slightly better than before. Even if only very slightly, but still.

The NV3 still achieved 3rd place in the overall score.
It is also in 3rd place in terms of bandwidth and in terms of draw time?
Here, too, it is in third place, although no one can notice these differences. You only notice this when you switch from an HDD to an SSD. From a Trabant to a Porsche 911, so to speak, the Kingston NV3 has proven its suitability for gaming and everyday use. The only question that remains is: How good is it as a workstation?
