RDNA 4 Power for all: AMD launches four new Navi 48 and Navi 44 GPUs

According to Benchlife, AMD plans to release four new GPUs in the upcoming RDNA 4 “Radeon RX 8000” series, which is based on the Navi 48 and Navi 44 chips. This marks a focus on the mainstream gamer market. While AMD has tried to position itself in the mainstream market in the past, the company is once again returning to this strategy after the current RX 7000 series achieved only moderate success.

Two main chips are currently planned for the RDNA 4 family: the larger Navi 48 and the smaller Navi 44, both of which will be equipped with GDDR6 memory capable of speeds of up to 20 Gbps. The first samples of these GPUs are already in the test labs of AMD’s partner companies.

Details on the Navi 48 and Navi 44 SKUs

Both GPUs, Navi 48 and Navi 44, will be released in two different configurations. Here are the SKUs known so far:

GPU SKU number Model name
Navi 48 R24D-E8 Still unknown
Navi 48 R24D-E6 Still unknown
Navi 44 R25D-P8 Still unknown
Navi 44 R25D-P4 Still unknown

These SKUs are to be officially presented at CES 2025. The market launch is expected in the first quarter of 2025. The exact difference between the SKUs is still unknown, details on clock speeds, shader units or specific performance features have not yet been disclosed.AMD’s market approach seems to be shifting towards the mainstream segment. The main reason for this move is the market structure, where the majority of users fall into the mid-price range. High-end and enthusiast products will continue to be served, but no longer with the same priority as with previous GPU generations.

AMD is in direct competition with Intel and NVIDIA. Intel will also introduce GPUs for the mainstream and high-end market with its Arc Battlemage series. NVIDIA is planning new high-end GPUs with its Blackwell “RTX 50” series. It is to be expected that the price dynamics in this segment will become stronger due to competition. NVIDIA could, for example, reduce prices in order to keep its current products competitive.AMD will provide the first concrete information on the new GPUs at CES 2025 in the coming months. Until then, it remains to be seen how the company will position its new chips against the competition and what performance advantages they will offer.
