ZimaOS – Part 1

To try something new again, I replaced the pre-installed Windows 11 with ZimaOS. Normally I’m more of a fan of TrueNAS or OpenMediaVault, but recently I kept hearing about CasaOS and became curious.

Since the community-driven CasaOS does not yet offer out-of-the-box support for RAID, I ended up with the derivative ZimaOS on Github.

So I quickly flashed the installer onto a USB stick with balenaEtcher.

And then booted from it without any problems.

I have installed two SATA SSDs for testing, but I will install ZimaOS on the factory-installed M.2 SSD.

Just to be on the safe side, I’ll confirm that it’s the right drive.

And again, that we are absolutely sure.

Then we can start the installation.

Just a few minutes later, the installer is ready.

After a restart, I was greeted by a very small text in the corner, the IP address was not really legible.

But no problem, because we can find the system using the FindZima web tool. If necessary, you can also find out the IP via the router.

You create an account for the web interface the first time you connect.

You are also presented with a few of the most important features.
