The threaded inserts as a potential lead trap?
Many manufacturers have the tanks prefabricated and I have already found hidden lead several times at the connection between the insert and the water tank, which even the OEMs of the coolers had no idea about. And so the cut through the soldered insert must prove that the rules were followed here. You can see the difference between brass and solder in the center of the picture:
For good reasons, I took a closer look at this silver spot and analyzed it. And lo and behold: there is NOTHING to complain about. On the contrary. The usual 5 percent copper has been added to the pure tin in order to improve the mechanical properties and thus also the load-bearing capacity. You can definitely do that.
Now we come to the frame of the whole thing, which has to hold everything together and stabilize it. Underneath the fairly durable powder coating is solid Chrim steel, which also fits the bill.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to test the M3 screws because, as it was a used radiator, nothing was sent with it. But I’m guessing cheap steel screws without chrome or nickel added. At least I couldn’t find any usable remnants for analysis in the barely frayed threads.
Manufacturing and processing quality
In general, the Calore C360D can be attested to a decent manufacturing quality and I was also unable to find any prohibited substances such as lead or arsenic. If you also take the price into account, the Raijintek Calore C360D is ultimately a decent radiator at a reasonable price, for which you can also praise it. I could almost have saved myself the trouble of dismantling it, but you never know… It’s better to have a look and then know what you’re holding in your hands and what you’re installing.
However, I also had to remind Raijintek that brass is not copper and that the packaging doesn’t fit because it is explicitly advertised as copper. They will adapt it, they promised me. Let’s just hope so.
