Topology and teardown
The OEM is Helly Technology, which is starting to influence the PSU market by working with more brands. It’s good to see more factories and OEMs getting into the game as they can lower prices. This older design uses a double-forward topology on the primary side, which was very popular a few years ago when most PSUs were bronze rated. Despite the low price, the board is double-sided, which is a pleasant surprise. The soldering quality is good, and the parts used by Helly are not among the top manufacturers to keep production costs under control.
The bulk cap comes from Chengx, a company owned by the Chinese government. So the company has enough money for the equipment, and the electrolytic capacitors on the secondary side are from the same manufacturer. In addition, nine polymer capacitors are used to filter the ripple. On the secondary side, synchronous rectification is used, with two FETs generating the 12 V rail and a pair of DC/DC converters generating the secondary rails.
Finally, I have listed the fan, which is from a brand unknown to me. It is supposed to have a hydraulic-dynamic bearing, but as this is the most expensive bearing, I very much doubt it.
