The radiator and its weakest part
Let’s finally take a look at the 140 radiator from Alphacool and the material. Under the black coating, we find almost exclusively copper, both in the tank and in the rest of the radiator.
I wrote almost on purpose, because such a threaded insert is also made of brass at Alphacool for strength reasons. I have also analyzed this insert in a clean area and it can be clearly proven.
If you cut it open, you can also see where this insert comes into contact with the coolant: only where the fitting does not reach the end of the thread.
Now let’s take a look at the transition and see individual white crystal deposits that are already growing out of the surface in various sizes despite the coating.
And yes, what you might think is some kind of sulphate is – tada – the purest zinc oxide!
Under the oxide layer we find almost pure zinc. But how does zinc get to this exact place and only there? Please turn the page one last time, then you will finally find the answer!
