Fan curve and operating noise (“volume”)
Now we come to what is automatically generated when the waste heat is dissipated: various fan noises. As always, the measurements in the measuring chamber with the second system are a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed cover. That’s why I later set the fans manually to the values that I measured during gaming and torture in the closed housing and leave the setup open. The approx. 1450 rpm are barely audible. That’s very positive for now. Incidentally, it hardly gets any higher with OC. It’s like being stapled down, but it’s completely sufficient. The fans start up at around 46 to 48 °C and immediately go to 30% PWM.
But what does the measurement show? I only have the 285 watt card option here today, that’s all I can do. Incidentally, the frequency analysis shows very nicely how the sound carpet is divided up. At less than 35 dB(A) in the gaming loop, it’s really quiet, even if we can see the fundamental tone of the fan motors as a peak at around 200 Hz and further up we can also see very few peaks including harmonics from the coil and capacitor buzzing. You can see very clearly that the whole thing is only noticeable because the rest is quiet and not masked.
Coil noise: “Coil whining”
There is one point we still need to talk about and that is once again the annoying coil whining. I already wrote in the measurement of the load peaks that the cards perform an extremely jittery dance of joy, which you can also hear. Especially as the coils used are perfectly usable, but the rest of the card is “too quiet” to mask this. Here is a highly amplified recording, so please don’t be alarmed:
