Conclusion
Now we come to the conclusion. With the K65 Plus Wireless, Corsair has been able to eliminate many of the criticisms that buyers had leveled at previous models. You can tell that Corsair really wants to gain a foothold in the profitable custom keyboard market with this model, and they are prepared to sacrifice certain product features to do so, which even means that this keyboard lacks some of the typical Corsair DNA. However, that’s not a bad thing and I even think that the K65 Plus is doing quite well, because there’s one thing you don’t associate with Corsair at the moment: custom keyboards.
And you can definitely do that with this one. With decent workmanship, hotswap, solid switches and keycaps, the K65 Plus has many of the essentials you need to build a custom keyboard. However, with the expandable housing, the – in my opinion – unfortunate placement of the light on/off switch and the iCUE software, there are still a few things that will annoy custom keyboard nerds (no offense intended, I’m becoming one myself!). After all, you can already use most of the functionality without the iCUE software directly using a keyboard shortcut.
In terms of price, at a good €160, it is of course once again more in the premium segment, although in this specific case I actually look at the price with one laughing and one crying eye. On the one hand, wireless custom keyboards with PBT keycaps and pre-lubricated switches can sometimes cost twice or three times as much as the K65 Plus – but then they don’t usually have a cheap-looking plastic case. On the other hand, they are of course also available at much lower prices.
The keyboard was provided by CORSAIR for this test. The only condition was compliance with the embargo period; there was no influence or compensation.
