The MK550T as a reference for the ColorChecker Display Plus
As already explained, I have so far used the display references that can be selected in Calman to ultimately carry out my measurements in SDR and HDR. See picture
In future, my settings for the ColorChecker colorimeter will look like this.
Next, I align both devices to the screen, then I reference the ColorChecker Display Plus to the MK550T by profiling the panel.
At the end, the profile is given the name of the monitor that is currently being tested. When I then carry out my measurements with the ColorChecker, I just have to select the corresponding profile and that’s it.
Create profile:
Select a profile for the ColorChecker Dispaly Plus:
The profile name is shown below the selected colorimeter. (I am currently using the ColorChecker Display Plus, but this may change in the future, but the procedure will always remain the same)
You already know the rest from the basic article on Calman Ultimate. To give you an idea of how the measurements differ between the ColorChecker Display Plus and the MK550T.
I measured my Samsung Odyssey OLED G8, which is “hardware-calibrated” to D65 at 160 nits in full gamut (which is what the panel can do in Rec. 2020). Please note: I also use the contrast enhancer on low, which has a slightly negative effect on the gamma curve – but I like the picture best this way.

As you can see, you can also measure with the colorimeter alone, without reference to a spectrometer. The deviations are not so great that it would make a significant difference in the end. A good monitor remains good and a bad one remains bad – that’s what I call certainty. However, you really need to know which panel you are dealing with and also select the corresponding preset in Calman. Otherwise there may be significantly greater deviations than those shown here. Please note that in the end I only measure the certainty and not the truth. The manufacturers usually measure under laboratory conditions (constant temperature etc.). My measurements show you whether the manufacturer delivers approximately what he suggests to the customer. I can therefore assure you that my measurements have been correct in the past. This is because my results are basically in line with those of Tim Schiesser and Simon Baker.
