Summary
With the VA24ECE, ASUS delivers a very affordable monitor that is quite convincing with its IPS panel. The 75 Hz refresh rate has almost become the standard in this price range, so it’s a nice touch. It’s clear that you can’t expect OLED-style motion performance at 75 Hz, but the price has to come from somewhere.
The pixel response times, latencies and color performance have been implemented acceptably at the factory. The focus here has really been on the essentials. In terms of workmanship and ergonomics, the buyer has to accept some compromises. I was surprised that ASUS even included gaming overlays such as crosshairs in the OSD. In my opinion, this allows the VA24ECE to set itself apart from the Samsung LF24T352 not only in terms of price but also in terms of features.
The combination of good gaming and sRGB color performance has fully convinced me. Anyone who feels at home in the sRGB color space will feel right at home here. However, if you want to game at eSports level or edit images in the Adobe RGB color space, you will have to invest significantly more money. In other words, you shouldn’t have these demands in this price range.
Conclusion
The ASUS VA24ECE is an offer aimed particularly at budget gamers, home office users and second monitor buyers. For currently less than 100 euros including shipping, you can’t go wrong here. The performance matches the price and so the VA24ECE has truly earned its award. I have yet to find a better value-for-money monitor in the 24-inch class with 1080p resolution!
